We are adding 3 new Stocks to the Portfolio today due to the recent plunge in the market from the Corona Virus. These stocks would be Tesla (TSLA) at $674.98, Home Depot (HD) at $220.00, and Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCLH) $37.80 all really good buys. All 3 are going to have their earnings pitfalls for 2020 but over 2021-2025 they are going to be shining members of the portfolio. Now is the time to buy. Sure they might fall a little bit more but the worst thing you can do as an investor is try to hit the absolute bottom to buy and try to wait for the absolute top to sell.
Tesla was not a stock I wanted to add to the portfolio cause it is wild, erratic, and goes up and down so dramatically but over time it (up until 4 days ago) had actually doubled in value in less than one year. They are in a turf war in China with NIO (NIO) the electrical economical car made there. It will be interesting to see if the Chinese economy especially after Corona will have a lot of room for Tesla.
Home Depot well it has always been a great stock, but it looks like home building will continue in the short term and Home Depot is one of the best known brands. Los Angeles my home is building, building, building where are all these people going to fill these high rises going to come from.
Norwegian Cruise Lines has been hammered so thoroughly that it is well below its valuation as a company that it is to good a bargain to pass up. I wanted to buy when it fell to $46.00 but the market gave me an extra 20% late Presidents day sale. Don't look at me like that Barbara from Seattle it was a bad joke.
Let's now turn away from Wall Street in New York to Wall Street in Los Angeles. I am living in south central Los Angeles there was a shooting in the corner market by me they gunned down an 18 year old boy in the store. I have been here exactly 9 days. There have been 3 shootings, and one guy who has jumped our fence come onto the property with a gun. To say I am on the front line of a gang turf war is an understatement. Tesla's war does not even compare.
This made me think of a time a long time ago I happened to be in jail spending twenty two days on a charge that is not important. We were on the 13th floor of the jail and got a smell of the ocean. Another 18 year old boy that was on trial for murder for killing his "Sugar Daddy" made a comment that I will never forget for the rest of my life. He said: "I have never seen the ocean"; I looked at him and was very judgemental "What do you mean you have never seen the ocean" then he proceeded to tell me that he never had been more than a mile in any direction of the house he grew up in; in Compton. His mother worked and could not take him there, he had no father around. I thought it was one of the most tragic things I ever heard because with the murder charge of life in prison on a 3rd strike he never would. Not sure what happened to him but he would be forty six years old this year so hopefully he got paroled.
So if you are following this mock portfolio which was returning 26% understand the entire wealth of the country has been wiped out in the last few days by the Corona Virus scare so I do not even need to do the math to say the portfolio is struggling also, hold tight this is one of those cycles we have to sit through and not panic. Just like 1928 and in 1987, 2008 and 2020 in the end we will do well. If you haven't bought before do so now. Just remember this is probably not the bottom, bottom of the market and things may not bounce back so quickly because of the 10% valuation we lost which can trigger a Bear market. I actually believe it will because this is a worldwide event not just something happening inside the borders of the Untied States.
